Sarah P’s comments: This position is in the US but is a chance to become involved with Oman and Omanis. Having lived in Oman, my opinion is it is the ‘best of the Middle East’ and I would jump at a chance to work at an institution dedicated to ‘educating the peoples of the United States and Oman about the breadth and richness of our two cultures’ even if it means living in DC for awhile.
Here is an excerpt from my book: Oman is a stark but beautiful, mountainous country which borders the Indian Ocean and Omanis, having traded with India and ruled Zanzibar, are more outward thinking than some of the desert tribes. They also value learning. Opportunities here, however, are rare due to the fact that the University has its own library program. Unfortunately, it is an undergraduate program and not recognized outside of its borders so Omani librarians are generally only employable in Oman.
