Job: Head of Libraries (School)

10.11.16 –  Head of Libraries
British School of Jakarta, Indonesia

Sarah P’s comments:  This position was listed last year in November so I am not sure whether it was ever filled. BSJ is a well-established school but I could not find any reviews.  Also, life in Jakarta is not for everyone.

Dates:  Apply by October 21st, 2016,  Job start August 2017

BSJ is an HMC Co-educational Day School of 1,400 pupils and is recognised as a world leader in the education of children from Foundation Stage to the International Baccalaureate. With an attractive campus located on a modern green-field site in the suburbs of Jakarta, the school and Indonesia offer a diverse environment to work and live.

Candidates may offer a combination of subjects and for some positions there may be a position of responsibility available.

The British School Jakarta is an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to safe guarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.

This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS/ICPC disclosure and full reference checks.

To apply, please complete the online application form by visiting: www.bsj.sch.id/280/careers-at-bsj and attach a CV with a covering letter by the 21 October 2016.

News: A Quixotic Mission…

4.19.16 – A Quixotic Mission: Indonesia’s Library on Horseback
By David Gonzalez,  The New York Times, Apr. 12, 2016

Who doesn’t remember the magic of libraries, where new wonders awaited on each shelf, ready to take young minds to far-off places? Of course, if you live in a far-off place, a library may be something you’d only read about in books. That is, if you had books to begin with.

That became the mission of Ridwan Sururi, an Indonesian man with a plan — and a horse…

Ridwan arriving at a nearby village with his mobile library.
