● Working hours 9.30am-4.30pm five days a week, flexible timings

La Choza Chula creates positive change and opportunities for young people in the surf community of El Paredón, Guatemala. The Education Assistant is a key role in our small team – responsible for supporting our Education Manager to deliver a range of literacy activities through the local library, teaching English and creative educational programmes.

Main tasks

Key support for Education Manager to achieve La Choza Chula’s Educational goals
Help in La Buena Vista Biblioteca – the community library – includes working with local librarians to develop resources and displays and working with Elementary school and Secondary students
Teaching English to children in the primary school
Sourcing materials and developing new programmes

Candidate Profile


Strong work ethics, which include self motivation and ability to take initiative
Competency in Spanish (minimum intermediate level)
Ability to work with a range of people from different backgrounds
Passion for community/international development
Ability to be self-sufficient in a rural environment
Adaptable, good humored, patient


Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Previous experience in teaching, education or youth development work
Experience living in a remote location or in a developing country

Interns need to cover own living costs ($750 for 3 months), health insurance and all travel
