Sarah P’s comments:  For school librarians seeking to go overseas, ISKL is one of the best schools.  Having said that, they require that candidates must have completed confidential recommendation files with one of the established recruiting agencies, such as CIS, Search Associates, UNI, or ISS.  I am posting this as an example of a good school and a well-written job description – to encourage librarians to consider earning their school certification which is not all that difficult (see Chap. 3 Resources) and also show that while it is not necessary to attend a hiring fair it is still important to join an agency and be vetted.

Position Description:

The HS librarian collaborates with faculty in the development of reading and information literacy skills for students through the administration of the library media program, provides specialized instruction to students and faculty, and oversees the selection, organization, utilization, and maintenance of library, information, and curriculum resources. The HS Librarian will understand and be an agent for the changes in K-12 schooling that are needed for schools to be centres for 21st century learning. Being highly

innovate and creative, the HS Librarian will work with the MS Librarian to move students beyond mere research, practice and group work to a greater level of engagement through exploration, experimentation, and collaboration.

Application Interested candidates will submit a single PDF file with the following to Mr. Jeff Farrington as early as possible, and no later than November 26th, 2014, 4:00 p.m. : current resume, references, letters of recommendation and a one page statement outlining how a HS library meets the needs of 21st century learners. Preference is given to confidential references, therefore, please make it apparent if you are registered with ISS or Search. A short list will be determined using the criteria identified above.
Normally, we ask that internal candidates currently in the first year of their two year contract at ISKL fulfill their initial

reserves the right to make an appointment before the deadline is reached. Therefore it is important that interested candidates apply as early as possible.
The Selection Committee shall hold interviews for short-listed candidates in the office of the High School Principal or via Skype.
The format for the interviews will be: a set of standard questions asked of each candidate, supplementary questions asked by each member of the Selection Committee, and an opportunity for final comments or questions from the candidate. The decision and announcement of the successful candidate will be made as soon as the interview process is complete.
