10/10/14 – Library Systems Manager
The University of the South Pacific, Suva, Fiji
Recruiting for Excellence
The University of the South Pacific is one of only two regional universities in the world. We are the leading tertiary education provider and research facility in the South Pacific. The USP recognises the importance of research activity to our academic staff and therefore provides incentives to encourage research and publications output.
We have over 27,000 students across 33 million square kilometers of ocean. The USP is owned and supported by 12 Pacific Island countries. We are committed to leaving a lasting legacy for all of these countries by developing their leaders of tomorrow. With a five-year strategic plan we have significant ambitions for the future and we need great talents and personalities to achieve them.
The USP Library is the largest in the South Pacific. It has an expansive network comprising 22 libraries that are located across the USP member countries. The network offers more than 1 million books and serials in print, 7000 e-books, and 40,000 full text titles accessible via multidisciplinary databases with 24/7 access from the Library website.
In this role you will have the opportunity to manage the Systems section of the network of libraries at USP. The successful candidate will provide excellent leadership, support, and advice in all areas relating to the utilization and implementation of ICT, in consultation with the University Librarian and professional library staff. Areas include Library Management Systems, Internet and online services (including web and mobile technologies), Database development, Word processing, Desktop publishing, and Digitization.

Sarah P’s comments: USP is arguably the largest and the best college to work for in the Pacific region. They are British-based. If you lack the qualifications for this position the second choice is Palau Community College who posted a librarian position available in March and September (I think they did not find a candidate as the pay is low).
